P S L T20 history
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is the premier domestic cricket tournament of Pakistan and is a part of the international T20 format. Founded in 2016, it features franchises from five cities across the country – Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Islamabad – with players from all around the world.
The PSL is not only popular for its thrilling on-field action, but also for the colorful atmosphere and star-studded celebrations that it has become renowned for. From elaborate opening ceremonies and post-match entertainment, to spectacular lights and dazzling laser displays, the tournament never fails to put on a great show.
The first edition of the tournament took place in 2016, with the Quetta Gladiators winning the inaugural title after a dramatic finish to the final. The tournament saw increased viewership in 2017 and 2018 with Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United crowned as champions respectively. In 2019, the PSL was taken to the next level with a brand-new logo and logoed jerseys, the addition of a sixth team (Multan Sultans), and the implementation of a dedicated PSL-centric TV channel. Quetta Gladiators defended their crown in the third edition and emerged as the most successful team in the history of the league.
The fourth edition of the PSL began in 2020, with an action-packed tournament that was jam-packed with a lot of entertainment and stellar performances from players. Peshawar Zalmi came out as the eventual champions, proving that the format is highly competitive and that the players never fail to produce an electrifying atmosphere.
As the league continues to grow, more international cricket stars are making their way to Pakistan, creating more excitement and adding a flavor of global flavor to the local tournament.
